POLICY STATEMENT
OFFICE OF ACADEMICS (OA)
Department Mission
The OA ensures that Agathon U excels in quality academic design, production, delivery, and assessment in serving Learners, ensuring the highest quality fulfillment of the Learner Engagement Cycle.
Department Accountability
The OA is led by the Vice President of Academics who is the Chief Academic Officer (CAO), under supervision of the President.
Department Function
The OA (1) advances the vision, mission, purpose, and values of the institution by providing direction and oversight for academic design, production, delivery, and assessment, (2) leads in institutional research and strategic planning initiatives pertaining to academics, and (3) serves as an institutional compliance officer for state authorizations and accreditations.
Academic Oversight
The OA oversees the implementation of the LMS, Gradebook, and other tools, and oversees the assignment of faculty for course development and mentoring, using the appropriate tools, and ensuring that academic progress and learner status are properly reported by faculty to Enrollment Management or the Registrar’s office.
The OA oversees faculty to ensure quality onboarding, function, and assessment, and has representative leadership of the Academic Leadership Council (ALC), which is Agathon U’s integral system for faculty participation and leadership in curricular and programmatic decision making. The ALC serves as an advisory council for the CAO. The CAO appoints and oversees Program Directors who have delegated oversight over their respective program.
Institutional Leadership
The OA ensures the advising of relevant personnel on progress, problems, solutions and desirable changes in relation to academics, and schedules and conducts meetings to present, explain and discuss academics with appropriate individuals and groups, communicating accurate information to department staff and outside entities. The OA engages outside entities for the promotion of policy and procedures and the sharing of resources, serves on appropriate institutional standing and ad hoc committees, reviews reports and documentation to monitor levels of activity and to identify staff problem areas and strengths.
The OA analyzes and assesses the effectiveness of academic programs, and coordinates the institutional research needed to evaluate the institution’s effectiveness and prepares and updates planning documents. The OA collects, analyzes, and organizes data for input into planning and evaluation activities, and provides evaluative services that ensure the ability to examine the effectiveness of academic programs and services.
Leadership in Compliance
Because of the universal reach of academics within Agathon U, the CAO serves as an institutional compliance officer, preparing authorization and accreditation documentation files for review by accreditation agency staff, preparing and submitting annual reports as required, and providing guidance and instruction to administration concerning accreditation and other compliance matters.
